Starfield Launches On September 6, 2023; Developer Direct Set For June 11

Today, after the delay out of 2022 and into the first half of 2023, Bethesda has announced that Starfield is launching later this year on September 6, 2023. It was expected during the first half of 2023 but it looks like Bethesda Game Studios needs the extra time to have it be the best experience possible. In addition to the launch date, Bethesda has also revealed a date for the Starfield Direct which was teased during Xbox and Bethesda’s first Developer Direct showcase sharing more news on games coming out in the next few months. The Starfield Direct will happen on June 11, 2023, following the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase.

“Hi everyone, from myself and everybody here at Bethesda, we are so excited to finally tell you when Starfield is coming out this year,” Todd Howard, Game Director said. “You know, we have poured ourselves into this game and even I’m surprised how much we can pour, it is large. We’re playing the game all the time.”

The Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct is new initiative for the team. Developer Directs focus on a small selection of titles instead of the big E3-style showcase. The first Developer Direct revealed Hi-Fi Rush and provided release dates for Redfall, Minecraft: Legends, the next Elder Scrolls Online expansion, and a new release window for Forza Motorsport. In the presentation, Xbox and Bethesda also announced that Starfield would be getting its own Developer Direct presentation.

Talking about what to expect from Starfield Direct, Todd Howard said “But also, this June we’re going to bring you into the studio, and give you a deep dive in the game at our Starfield Direct. There’s so much that we still have to show you. The game has many of the hallmarks that you’d expect from us but it’s also a very unique experience.”

The Starfield Direct will take place on June 11, 2023, which is also when the next Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase will happen. The Direct will follow afterward.
