League of Legends MMO Producer, Greg Street, Steps Away From Riot Games

Earlier today, Greg Street, producer of the upcoming League of Legends MMORPG, announced that he was leaving Riot Games after working there for a total of 9 years, according to Eurogamer. To commemorate the event, he released a tweet regarding why he made this decision, showing faith in the upcoming project and team, even after he leaves.

According to Pcgamer, Street had chosen to step away from Twitter in December 2022 due to the passing of his brother and the expected passing of his father. Today was his return to Twitter after the multi-month hiatus and tweeted a multi-part response to update people on his mental health and his plans for the future.

In summary, Street has used his time over the last few months to focus on his family, thanking fans of their support of him during those difficult times. He also notes that he plans on leaving the Riot team to work elsewhere, though he remarks that he has complete faith in the team he was working with to complete a wonderful completed project.

Shortly after Street released his tweet, the president of Riot Games, Marc Merrill, also made a multi-part tweet discussing the future of the MMO, now that Street has left. To summarize his message, Merrill prefaces by thanking Street for his work up to this point and acknowledging his reasons for leaving. He then elaborates that the game is far from completion, though they have a strong image of what they want the game to look like and how it should work. He remarks that Street contributed to “an amazing first leg,” of the project and finishes by calling out to fans, asking for their input into the game, with their website showing over 250 positions available for those who wish to provide their input to the upcoming MMO.

After 9 years of supporting Riot Games, Street’s departure is bittersweet, though fans have been very supportive of his decision and look forward to seeing what he chooses to work on next.
