For decades upon decades, the Star Wars franchise has found its way into the home and hearts of countless people. From movies to television, merchandise to video games, the franchise is still going strong. And, coming in 2022, the popular MMORPG video game Star Wars: The Old Republic will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. In honor of this momentous occasion, game developers at BioWare have announced that the game will be receiving a whole new expansion titled Legacy of the Sith during the Holiday of 2021. This expansion will include new worlds, new stories, new character customization, and so much more.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is an open-world Star Wars adventure game that centers around a player character given a series of story-based missions based on the plot of the franchise’s popular films. As developers have announced, the Legacy of the Sith expansion pack will introduce a series of new story missions for players to complete, accompanied by several new and complex world environments.
The war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire spreads to new worlds! Dangerous fringe groups rise in the dark corners of the galaxy and Darth Malgus pursues an unknown plan…
The overall plot of the expansion and its new missions follows the plans of Darth Malgus, who has been expanding the Empire’s control and seizing mysterious Jedi and Sith artifacts from around the galaxy. Along their journey, players will be sent to several new worlds in hopes of slowing the Empire’s spread. These new quest settings include regaining control of Manaan, exploring an abandoned Sith fortress on Elom, and quelling a threat from deep space.
Of course, with a hefty amount of new missions to take on, your character is going to need a lot more improvements to take on the threat of the Empire. The Legacy of the Sith also marks the release of Combat Styles within the game. Players will now be able to customize their character’s combat abilities even further with Advanced Classes and changes to character loadout. The level cap of the game will also be increased to Level 80, giving players even more opportunities to maximize their character’s power.
The new story expansion brings along with it the release of a new Galactic Season known as Shadows of the Underworld. This season will release new rewards and even a new player companion based on the Duros.
Alongside these new expansions, BioWare plans on enhancing the overall gameplay experience. There will be updates to the character customization settings, as well as visual changes within the character sheet and inventory.
There is also much more to be announced. Developers say that the Legacy of the Sith is only the first of new changes coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic during its 10th-anniversary event. Developers have given players the heads up to ‘expect so much more’ as the year continues. These changes will include story updates, a revamp of the PVP system, new Galactic Seasons, new locations, and overall visual and gameplay improvements, with even more surprises thrown in between.
