Resident Evil 7 Announced, Will Be VR Compatible

After much rumors and speculation, at Sony’s E3 conference we finally got our first look at Resident Evil 7.  The game will be released on January 24th, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

From the trailer, it looks like Resident Evil 7 will bring the series back to its survival-horror roots, which should be welcome since the series basically became an action series with Resident Evil 5 and 6.  As shown in the trailer, the game will be played in first-person, and will be more focused on building a terrifying atmosphere.

Resident Evil 7 will also be compatible with the upcoming Playstation VR, although it can be played without it.  The game has already been made available for pre-order on the Playstation Store, and those with a PS Plus account have access to an exclusive demo.

Gamespot has demo of the first twenty minutes of gameplay, and from what I’ve seen the game seems to borrow elements from the original Resident Evil and even a little bit of Silent Hill.  According to Capcom, Resident Evil 7 takes place after the events of Resident Evil 6 with the story focusing on a “foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America.  Players must explore and survive the horrors within the mysterious, sprawling estate.”

We did not expect to get this much information about Resident Evil 7, but it looks like a good change of direction for the series.  It could also be a possible must-have for the Playstation VR, and hopefully the PC version might be compatible with the Oculus and HTC Vive.
