Resident Evil 4’s VR Mode Has Begun Development Following Resident Evil Village’s VR Mode Launch For PS VR2

Today marks the launch of PlayStation VR 2 and with it, among other titles, the launch of Resident Evil Village’s VR mode for PS VR2. With that now done, Capcom has revealed that development has begun on a VR mode for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake. Like Resident Evil Village’s VR mode, Resident Evil 4 VR mode will be available as free DLC. More information will be revealed later. Resident Evil 4 is releasing in a few weeks on March 24, 2023, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Resident Evil 4 will be the latest Resident Evil title to get a VR mode. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was released with the launch of PlayStation VR and features the full game playable in VR. Resident Evil Village’s VR mode follows suit and is the full game playable in VR with all the new bells and whistles that PlayStation VR2 provides.

Players will experience Resident Evil Village in stunning detail through PS VR2’s 4K HDR display and eye-tracking technology. 3D audio effects further enhance the atmosphere that adds texture to the environment and allows listeners to hear the horrors that lurk around every corner. Players will interact with their surroundings like never before with PS VR2’s Sense Controllers. Natural motions will mirror Ethan’s on-screen movements. This includes blocking enemy attacks by lifting Ethan’s arms, reloading firearms with realistic actions, and being able to explore while holding a map. Players will also be able to dual-wield weapons, store and retrieve items inside Ethan’s coat, and perform a range of other tactile gestures like unlatching doors and healing wounds with medicine bottles.

The Resident Evil Village VR mode will include a VR tutorial and Shooting Range modes that demonstrate the new VR gameplay systems and provides a place for players to hone their marksmanship skills. A demo for Resident Evil Village VR mode is also now available to download via the PlayStation Store.
