It looks like some more of last generation’s titles are on their way to the current generation of systems. This time it’s a slew of Capcom’s Resident Evil entries, as the company has announced that the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, as well as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will all be re-releasing for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Each title will be given a major visual overhaul, all of which includes the bells and whistles that the newer hardware’s technical prowess can boast. The titles will launch later this year.

In addition, Capcom also revealed that anyone who already owns any of these titles for the previous generation will be eligible for a free digital upgrade for their respective system. For the PlayStation 5, there will be a digital upgrade option, while the Xbox Series X|S will utilize the Smart Delivery feature which automatically plays the version with the new upgrades. Capcom will also be releasing these updates for the PC versions, which will simply receive a patch that allows the game to be updated.
These updates include some of the newer and richer visuals that we’ve come to expect in the current generation of gaming. This includes the now very much desired ray tracing, 60 frames per second, better audio quality, and 4k resolution. On top of that, the PlayStation 5 versions will all make use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback features. All three entries have been generally well-received by the community, especially the remake of Resident Evil 2, which was widely acclaimed and is now considered one of the best remakes in gaming history. Hopefully, Capcom will provide us with a more concrete date for these updates, and we can’t wait to replay them with the new beautiful visual upgrades.
