Platinum Game’s Website Teases Announcement For April 1

At the risk of making this an April Fools Day joke, Platinum Games has announced that they will be unveiling something on April 1. The official website was recently updated to reflect this tease, where the Platinum 4 in the center now has fourth annotation on the bottom right corner that states “04.01.” The Platinum 4 campaign started earlier this year when the company teased the initial four announcements, showcasing each one at separate intervals in the past few months.

The three previous announcements thus far have had wide-ranging reactions in the video game industry, all of which have been positive. The first was a full remaster of the unsung Wii U title The Wonderful 101 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game was brought about thanks to a Kickstarter campaign that completely demolished expectations and has now ensured its completion. Platinum later announced that the game would be launching this year on May 19.

The second announcement was a brand new IP in which they will be self-publishing themselves with the working title Project G.G. Platinum was able to make such move thanks to some capital investment from Tencent, and the company isn’t intent on letting that go to waste. The project will be headed by Hideki Kamiya, one of the greatest minds in the industry who has created big named titles such as Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Okami, and Bayonetta.

The third announcement was the opening of brand new studio in Tokyo, Japan. However, this new studio will be focusing on games as a service as opposed to developing current and new IP’s. It’s a venture that Platinum hasn’t gone through before, and it will be interesting to see how that plays out. As for this new tease, Platinum has only given us the date and a cryptic quote in the tweet that says “Look to the stars.” What this could mean is anyone’s guess, but we’ll just have to wait until April 1 to see what the company has in store for us.
