One of Japan’s most popular online RPG titles, Phantasy Star Online 2, is finally getting a release date for its arrival to Windows 10 and PC. Fans of the series have waited for a western port of the game for almost seven years since the game’s first release in 2012. Phantasy Star Online is a free-to-play action RPG developed and published by Sega and is currently only available for the U.S. via Xbox, with the PC release slated for release on May 27th. The free-to-play RPG was released in Japan in July of 2012 and had remained exclusive to Japan until its release on North American Xbox consoles in April. Players on both Xbox and PC systems will also be able to cross-play with one another upon the game’s PC release.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is an online MMORPG based in Oracle, “an intergalactic fleet at the forefront of space travel and exploration” where the player is a member of the ARKS, a group set on ridding the universe of darkness and evil. The game lets players choose from one of four different races when customizing their characters. Choosing between the Human, Newman, Casts, or Deuman race for your character can affect how their abilities or growth might be affected, and once a character is chosen players can also select one of the nine available classes. Like most classes in RPG games, Phantasy Star Online 2‘s classes include the traditional ranged Hunter, Ranger, Berserker, and Support classes, but the game also offers unique classes for players. For example, the offensive-support class Force and close-quarters support class Bouncer allow players the ability to try out new gameplay styles for an RPG that they may not be familiar with in a traditional RPG. The game’s release on May 27th will include all current content and cross-platform capabilities with Xbox consoles.
