Open-World Aerial Game, Black Skylands, Coming to Early Access This Summer

Another gorgeous pixel game is coming to PC soon. Black Skylands, developed by a small studio named Hungry Couch, is an open-world ‘skypunk’ game with elements of sandbox, RPG, and top-down shooter games. Announced earlier today, this title is going to have an Early Access version available soon through Steam.

In Black Skylands, players will play as Eva who is on a quest for revenge after the Kain’s Falcons, a bandit group, killed her father. There are a lot of different game mechanics at work in this title. Combat will take place in both aerial and ground combat from a top-down shooter point of view. Players can upgrade and customize their airship and weaponry, and tailor it to their own playstyle. Another important aspect of Black Skylands is the open sandbox part where players will build their aerial base with useful buildings such as a workshop, factory, laboratory, and more. They will also have to defend their own base in addition to capturing enemy territory and growing their own influence across the skies. While Black Skylands is a ways off of a full release, it is expected to release into Early Access soon. The Early Access version is expected to be around half the size of the finished game.

Black Skylands is planned to release to open Early Access during the second quarter of 2021, which includes April to June, and remain there for about a year. However, for those that are eager to get their hands on this title, right now there is a limited Early Access playtest that lasts until the end of April for those interested which is available on Steam.
