Okami HD Announced for PS4, Xbox One, and PC

Capcom announced Okami would be released in HD for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in December this year.

Okami is an adventure game featuring a variety of Japanese legends and folklore in a complex storyline revolving around the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu. In the game, the player takes on the role of Amaterasu who is portrayed as a white celestial wolf with red-colored markings on her fur, accompanied by her tiny sprite-like companion Issun. The two travel the world together, eliminating darkness and evil spirits by using celestial brush powers acquired from gods and goddesses on their journey. They battle fearsome enemies of many shapes and sizes while also taking time to help out any humans and animals they meet along the way.

The game is often recognized for its uniqueness in using Japanese Sumi-e style art with bright and lively colors, as well as having a beautiful soundtrack and engaging set of characters. IGN gave full and extensive review highlighting these characteristics, along with an in-depth look at graphics, controls, and more.

Okami was originally released on the PlayStation 2 in 2006 and soon after for the Wii in 2008. Capcom also offered downloadable HD version of the game for the PlayStation 3 in 2012. Five years later Okami is back in HD again, but this time it offers more vibrant colors, stable gameplay, and an overall artistic experience with enhanced 4k graphics on multiple systems.

Capcom employee Yuri Araujo states,

“In addition to the three platforms mentioned in the headline, you’ll also now be able to experience the art and joy of Okami HD with beautiful 4K graphics on Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, and supported PC hardware. Speaking of visual settings, you can now play the game in a modern widescreen format, or if you prefer, you can play in the original 4:3 screen ratio.”

The trailer for the new Okami HD showcases bits of gameplay, but it does contain some character spoilers for those who have never played older versions of the game before.

Unfortunately, Capcom hasn’t released any information about Okami HD coming to any Nintendo platforms, even though Okami was released for the Wii in 2008. Some fans on twitter expressed disdain about the lack of an Okami HD Switch release as well:

However, Nintendo fans can still play the older version of Okami on their Wii consoles without any issues or plan to purchase Okami HD for PC.

Okami HD will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC in digital and physical formats on December 12, 2017.
