Obsidian Announces All Post-Release Content for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

Obsidian Entertainment’s follow-up to the highly acclaimed Pillars of Eternity is releasing in a little over a week now, and Obsidian has recently revealed a schedule of the post-release DLC that will follow. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire was fully funded within its first day of crowdfunding back in 2017, and it has been in development since mid-2016.

Players will be able to enjoy the base Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire game for a couple of months before the first piece of content drops: Beast of Winter is set to release in July 2018. The DLC “will take your party to an island populated by a mysterious doomsday cult, that hides an ancient secret,” Deadfire’s website says. “Players will get to experience adventuring in ‘The Beyond,’ a mysterious dimension populated by ancient souls and filled with devilish challenges.”

The second DLC will arrive a few months later in September, and this one will be called Seeker, Slayer, Survivor. This piece of content is apparently going to be a change from Obsidian’s usual story-driven add-ons to Pillars of Eternity, as the DLC is described as “combat-focused.” Seeker, Slayer, Survivor will bring players to “a previously undiscovered island that will challenge the martial prowess of your party, and your tactical skills as a commander, as you embark on a mission to rediscover ancient relics, and pit your party against Eora’s most skilled and savage.”

The third and final DLC announced, The Forgotten Sanctum, is coming in November of this year. Returning to more plot-heavy territory, this DLC promises to “test your party’s allegiance and morality” as players embark on “a quest to help (or obstruct) the great wizards of Eora.” While playing The Forgotten Sanctum, players will be able to “befriend, betray or befuddle these venerable mystics as you uncover secrets lost to the generations.” According to Deadfire‘s website, “the consequences of your actions will be felt across the Deadfire Archipelago whatever you decide.”

Players will be able to pick up each DLC individually for $10 each as they come out, or together as part of Deadfire‘s season pass for $25. All of the DLC are also available for purchase together with the game in Deadfire‘s Obsidian Edition, which is up for pre-order now. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire releases on May 8 for PC, Mac, and Linux.

In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
