Newly Announced Darksiders Game, Darksiders Genesis, Drops Teaser Trailer

After it was revealed that THQ Nordic would be unveiling new Darksiders game at E3 this year, they went ahead and dropped a teaser trailer for the new game earlier today. The new entry will be called Darksiders Genesis and strays away from the traditional Darksiders gameplay as promised. The Darksiders series is normally known for its third-person hack and slash style, but the new game will feature Diablo-esque top-down gameplay (though the hack and slash style remains). You can check out the new teaser trailer below, courtesy of IGN.

The new game will feature a new developing studio for the series, Airship Syndicate. They partnered with THQ Nordic in 2017 for the release of Battle Chasers: Nightwar, turn-based RPG. Previously, THQ Nordic worked with development studios Vigil Games (Darksiders I and II), Gunfire Games (Darksiders II remaster and Darksiders III), as well as KAIKO for the remaster of Darksiders I. The introduction of Airship Syndicate to the Darksiders series is no doubt due to their desire to take the franchise in a “fresh direction” as stated in their E3 discussion panel description.

With the announcement of Darksiders Genesis, the name leak featured in the 8chan AMA held by THQ Nordic earlier this year is indeed confirmed. The AMA also spoke about the potential of resurgence of the Destroy All Humans franchise, which now holds more weight due to the validity of the Darksiders news. While the company choosing 8chan to host their AMA was definitely not the brightest strategy, the information presented in it is proving to be solid.

Darksiders Genesis will follow the story of a new Horseman of the Apocalypse, Strife. The trailer, while brief, does offer a glimpse into the gameplay, which appears to also feature the original Darksiders protagonist, War. Strife himself even comments that he is “not alone,” potentially hinting at a co-op feature for the new game.

Currently, there is no release date for Darksiders Genesis, but will be launching on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Google Stadia. Expect to hear more about the upcoming game at this year’s E3 conference.
