Halo Team Explains Why Halo Infinite Is Taking So Long

Halo Infinite was first revealed during last year’s E3. The title gained a great amount of attention without even showing off any gameplay. Instead, the reveal last year was focused on the Slipspace engine that the game will be running on rather than the game itself. Now, a whole year later, many fans are hoping that the game will make its way to E3 2019 in full view.

It’s been quite some time since the last main entry into the Halo series, and fans are wondering when they might be able to get their hands on Halo Infinite. This has been the longest stretch between main entries into the franchises to date and many are wondering just what’s taking so long with the spiritual reboot of the beloved franchise. According to Halo transmedia boss Kiki Wolfkill, one of the factors is that 343 Industries has spent a lot of time working on “retooling” the franchise’s infrastructure.

“Part of why there’s been that span of time between Halo 5 and Infinite is the retooling of the infrastructure to give us the flexibility to do whatever we wanted with that game.” Which probably means that they are working on the new engine that will be powering the game. Wolfkill also added another reason that the development team is taking their time with the game is that Halo Infinite marked the “next generation of Halo.”

Because they consider the game a spiritual reboot to the series, they are finding new ways to bring others to game that may not have ever had any other experience with the Halo series before. Wolfkill stated “Part of what my role is and my goal with the transmedia pieces is, how do we start to engage new audiences and bring people into the universe so that when Infinite comes out, maybe people who haven’t played before are interested in playing.”
