Ninja Theory’s Multiplayer Brawler Bleeding Edge Leaks Ahead of E3 2019

Back in June of 2018, Microsoft acquired handful of development studios, including Ninja Theory, a studio best known for their work on DmC: Devil May Cry and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice It’s been pretty quiet since then, but recently Slovakian game site called Xboxer leaked trailer for Ninja Theory’s latest project in advance of this year’s upcoming E3 presentations.

Ninja Theory’s new game appears to be titled Bleeding Edge, and the minute-long trailer is watermarked with “Confidential” stamped over the footage. The trailer shows Bleeding Edge as a four-on-four multiplayer brawler. DmC: Devil May Cry‘s Combat Director Rahni Tucker is featured as well. The game looks like a departure from the more narrative-focused, single player experience of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, but the battle expertise of Rahni Tucker is a huge positive for this melee-heavy project.

Bleeding Edge looks a bit like Blizzard’s massively successful team shooter Overwatch and the trailer shows off nine characters with names like “Gizmo,” “Daemon,” and “Buttercup,” and it looks like each character has an individual toolkit. Gizmo has access to a mech, and Buttercup battles with a buzzsaw and looks to be part bike. It looks like wild fun and the bright color palette mixed with some undead-looking characters seems to indicate a riotous and chaotic experience.

According to the leaked trailer, Bleeding Edge will enter its technical alpha stage on June 27th.

Responding to the leak, Senior Analyst for consulting firm Niko Partners Daniel Ahmad talked about the game’s development history. According to Ahmad, the game entered development in 2014 and guesses that the game has “gone through many changes” following the acquisition by Microsoft.

Even though the trailer leaked early, there’s sure to be a lot to reveal about Bleeding Edge and other games and news at E3 over the next few days. Microsoft is planning on sharing lot of big news this year, including next-generation hardware, more game titles like Halo Infinite, and Project xCloud.  Microsoft will be presenting on June 9th at 1 PM PDT.

Angel Tuohy: I'm a fan of a lot of different games in different genres, and my favorites are Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Tekken, Persona, Resident Evil, and NieR. I think games are a brilliant way to tell a story, but it's important to me that the game is fun to play too. I've recently received my Master's degree in Literature.
