Every day, we inch ever closer to the official reveal of the next Nintendo Switch. There has been a lot of speculation about what we can expect from a new Switch console. We know when we will expect the new console with multiple reports saying that the new Nintendo Switch won’t launch before April 2025. We also may have gotten a first look at what the new Switch console will look like. Now, as case manufacturer Drand announces the Switch 2 Killswitch case, we may have gotten a new, more detailed look at the next Nintendo Switch including dimension details and some of the new upgrades that it’ll have over the Nintendo Switch and the OLED Switch model.
Based on the in-motion render and the mockup of the hardware, the new console looks to be larger and there seems to be a mysterious new second button on the right Joy-Con under the Home button. According to the Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz who says he has “actual dimensions” of the new console based on a “3D scan of the real hardware,” the new Nintendo Switch will be both larger and taller than the OLED model, but will roughly have the same thickness. The previous handheld is 242mm wide, 102mm tall and 13.9mm thick. The Switch 2, according to Ijaz, will me 270mm wide, 116mm tall, and 14mm thick, with the console taking up 200mm worth of the width. The kickstand will still measure around half the console’s height around 55mm; a diagonal measurement of the cover glass supports previous rumors that it’ll have an 8-inch screen. The joysticks will be 6.27mm tall with the D-pad and ABXY buttons protruding by 1.57mm, with a 180mm wide kickstand and back triggers that will extend 9.1mm.
Ijay says that it’s his “understanding” that the Joy-Cons are “magnetically attached” with “an ejection button” that will be on the back of the Joy-Cons near the top. There is also a second square button is under the Home button which has a “C” printed on it. It’s unclear whether or not this replaces the button you would press to capture something on the original Switch or if both buttons work differently.
The Dbrand case will be working toward a late March or early April release but Ijaz is “genuinely unsure” about the release date for the next Nintendo Switch.
