Information on new Sony patent has been revealed and while other patents offered a glimpse at what features the PlayStation 5 console will have, this new patent focuses on the User Interface. Details and images of the patent reveal that while the patent may not differ too much from the PlayStation 4 UI, there will be some new interesting aspects that make it unique. We may even see it in action during the “Future of Games” reveal event happening tomorrow where PlayStation is set to reveal some of the games we can look forward to playing on PlayStation 5.
One of the more interesting design features that seem to be coming with the new UI is the idea of personalization based on behavior. The description of the PlayStation 5 reads: “Methods and systems to provide a user interface to access games available for a user account. Selection of a game for gameplay is detected at the user interface and, in response, a gameplay is initiated. Interactions provided by a user during gameplay are used to affect an outcome of the game. The interactions are analyzed to determine game behavior of the user. Behavior metrics are generated for different portions of the game, based on the user’s game behavior. The behavior metrics for the user for the game are associated with a game icon of the game provided on the user interface, the association causes specific ones of the behavior metrics to be rendered for the different portions of the game during subsequent gameplay and are provided to help the user to improve the user’s gameplay for the different portions of the game.”
Based on the images, it looks like various types of hints could be provided and statistics can be seen as well. It all depends on what the player does and how they play the game. The images also highlight how similar the UI is to PlayStation 4’s. Recently, Sony announced the “Future of Gaming” event that was originally set for June 4 but was delayed due to the protests happening around the country after the death of George Floyd. Sony wasn’t the only video game company to show their support. Earlier this week, they revealed that the event was rescheduled for Thursday, June 11 at 1 pm PST. So, it’s possible that we may see the first look at PlayStation 5’s UI but Sony did say that the event would be focusing on what games will be available to play for the new system.
