New Joker Trailer Reveals Villainous Gameplay for Mortal Kombat 11

This week NetherRealm Studios debuted the first official gameplay trailer for the upcoming DLC character, DC villain and Warner Bros. character Joker. Joker joins fellow Kombat Pack guest DLC character the T-800 Terminator on the Mortal Kombat 11 roster with early access for Kombat Pack owners on January 28th, 2020.

The new Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay trailer shows off the moveset of one of Batman’s most famous arch-nemeses. A major change since Joker’s last appearance in NetherRealm’s Injustice 2 is the importance of his cane weapon, which now features prominently in Joker’s updated Mortal Kombat 11 game plan. Joker also has two oversized comedy prop boxing gloves (with bonus brass knuckles) for pummeling his opponents, a callback to the character’s toolkit in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

In Mortal Kombat 11, Joker will also incorporate a puppet modeled after DC superhero Batman. In classic Joker style, the funny little puppet houses a secret pistol that appears during throws and can be used as a projectile at range. Joker will also be able to call in some “help” in the form of a tied-up prisoner rigged with explosives. The hostage hops along the screen towards the opponent before detonating. Joker uses a wide array of various schlocky props (and people) for his own purposes, and it looks like he will be a very tricky and frustrating opponent when he joins the Mortal Kombat 11 roster as the latest guest kombatant. The exploding jack-in-the-box that can hit low or high looks especially aggravating.

Joker’s Fatal Blow is seen in the newest gameplay trailer along with his Fatality. For a Fatal Blow, Joker uses his Ramob knife to stab his opponent and slice them a smile before smashing them with his cane weapon. For his Fatality, Joker hands his opponent a cartoonishly suspicious birthday cake, which is (you guessed it) rigged to explode. The explosion sends the opponent into the air, where they are defenseless against Joker’s machine gun barrage. The sign changes from “Friendship” to “Fatality” during the onslaught. The sign falls, chopping the opponent in half.

The trailer also shows some skins for the cast that are part of the “DC Elseworlds” Pack that will release with Joker to Kombat Pack owners on January 28th. The pack includes a Killer Croc skin for Baraka, a Catwoman skin for Kitana, and The Batman Who Laughs for Noob Saibot. The pack also includes a Darkseid skin for Geras called “The Time Lord of Apokolips” and the previously released Harley Quinn skin for Cassie Cage. For those without the Kombat Pack, Joker and the DC Elseworlds skins will be available separately one week after the Early Access date.

Mortal Kombat 11 and the DLC characters Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Sindel, and Terminator are available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Todd MacFarlane’s Spawn joins the Mortal Kombat 11 roster in March 2020.

Angel Tuohy: I'm a fan of a lot of different games in different genres, and my favorites are Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Tekken, Persona, Resident Evil, and NieR. I think games are a brilliant way to tell a story, but it's important to me that the game is fun to play too. I've recently received my Master's degree in Literature.
