New Character Trailer Revealed For CRYSTAR, Pre-Ordering Begins Later This Month

As mentioned in a recent post to the PlayStation.Blog site, Producer/Director Fuyuki Hayashi and Character Designer Riuichi unveiled the newest Character Trailer for their upcoming game, CRYSTAR, at this year’s Anime Expo. The game, which released in Japan last year, will be celebrating its international launch in just a month. CRYSTAR is an action-adventure RPG about the journey of Rei, a young girl who sets out on a quest to revive her sister’s lost soul. Experience a beautiful story about love, and the dangers one is willing to face to protect those they care for.

The recently revealed trailer introduces the four Executors, beings contracted by Demons to defeat the monsters and collect crystalized tears known as Idea. In order of appearance, they are:

  • Rei Hatada, the Warrior of Grief: The main protagonists, she makes a deal with Demon Twins in order to revive her younger sister, Mirai, whose death she is responsible for. After becoming an Executor, she embarks on a dangerous journey through the afterlife to find her sister’s soul. She is described as quiet and very serious but can become emotional. She is willing to do whatever it takes to protect those she loves.
  • Kokoro Fudoji, the Champion of Vengeance: Another human turned Executor, obsessed with enacting revenge for the deaths of her young child and the man she loves. While usually obsessed with such thoughts, she can be friendly and cheerful when around Rei. She is described as an “older sister” type who is fond of cute girls.
  • Sen Megumiba, the Defender of Justice: She is another human who joins Rei and the team as an Executor. She lost her mother in a terrible accident and now fights to prevent Revenants from causing any more harm to innocent souls. She has a strong sense of justice and values law and order.
  • Nanana, the Advocate of Pleasure: A humanoid Revenant who is infatuated with Rei. She has the power to alter entire regions of Purgatory to halt the group from progressing further. Regardless of her status, she joins the group as an Executor and helps the girls on their mission.

To strengthen their armor, equipment, and power, players will need to save the tears wept by the girls. Coming face-to-face with the memories and sorrows of their past is what will allow them to develop their battle strategies and abilities against the Revenants and Specters that have infiltrated the realm. “In CRYSTAR, tears aren’t a sign of weakness, but of strength.”

Each girl will also gain the ability to summon her own personal Guardian, a mystical being who will aid and protect them in combat.

Pre-ordering for the game will begin later this month on July 26th. Pick up some exclusive bonuses by reserving your digital copy through the PlayStation Store, including an extra 10% off discount as well as 8 additional themes. All pre-orders will also receive the Summer Collection Costume DLC.

PlayStation 4 exclusive Day 1 Edition includes a mini-art book titled “Journey through Purgatory.” Enjoy the world of Purgatory beautifully illustrated by character designers RIUICHI and ntny!

CRYSTAR Localized Release Update, Spike Chunsoft Website

In the same update posted on the publisher’s website, the team mentions a recent change made. Simply put, about a fraction of a second depicting Rei’s naked buttocks was removed from the opening movie for the PlayStation 4 versions of CRYSTAR. The change has absolutely zero effect on the overall content, gameplay, or storyline. The PC version will, however, remain unedited.

You can watch the official Announcement Trailer for CRYSTAR below.

CRYSTAR is expected to launch next month, August 27th, in North America. Its European release will follow just three days later on August 30th. The game will be playable on the PlayStation 4 and PC via the Steam Store. For more information, please visit either the studio’s official website or the CRYSTAR Steam Store page.

I have recently discovered that I DO NOT want to be a doctor, and have been studying Creative Writing and World Cinema. I love storytelling more than any subject, and would probably watch, read, or play anything given to me just to know how it ends.
