Natsume Announces Sequel to SNES Classic, Wild Guns, with Wild Guns Reloaded

When it comes to cult hit video games from the early 90s, like, say, Plok or Demon’s Crest, there is undoubtedly at least one person out there who’d love nothing more than a reboot to their favorite retro game. Was that the case with Wild Guns, Natsume’s 1994 Wild West/Steampunk shoot-em-up for the SNES? We’re not sure. But whether the game has a big following or not doesn’t matter, because Natsume has announced today that the series is coming back in the form of Wild Guns Reloaded.

Wild Guns is a point-of-view gallery shooter, in which players choose from one of two characters,  Clint and Annie. They can play solo or cooperatively with a friend. Clint and Annie will quick draw and blast their way across various Wild Western locales, taking down big bandit bosses decked out with monstrous machinery along the way. Watch the video below to get a taste of the West, as imagined by Natsume.

The arcade-style gallery shooter has gone the way of the Old West in recent years. If or how Wild Guns’ gameplay will be made palatable for a modern audience remains to be seen, though Natsume themselves have stated that Reloaded will be a something of a reboot, a remake and a sequel to the original game.

And, yes, Wild Guns actually does have quite a following. It’s widely regarded as one of the SNES’ underrated classics, in a sea of underrated classics that belong to the console.

Wild Guns Reloaded will be releasing for the PlayStation 4. Its release date has not been announced, but Natsume has promised that their presentation at E3 will reveal more details on the title.
