E3 2021 has come and gone. With it came a wide variety of game reveals, announcements, and updates for everyone to enjoy. There were some big hitters revealed by the usual suspects such as Microsoft, Nintendo, and Ubisoft. With all those games, we decided to put together our favorite games of E3 2021. Check out mxdwn’s Top 10 games from E3 2021 below:
10. Far Cry 6
To start off our list, is a Ubisoft mainstay with Far Cry 6. Far Cry 6 got two separate trailers during E3. One showed more of Giancarlo Esposito’s intimidating portrayal of the game’s villain Anton. In the first trailer during the Ubisoft Forward, see Anton boarding a boat housing refugees and Anton finds his son among them trying to escape his father’s rule. The other trailer highlighted more gameplay and it looks like the typical Far Cry affair. Then, there’s also the season pass which will include playable sections featuring villains of Far Crys past including Vaas from Far Cry 3, Pagan Min from Far Cry 4, and Joseph Seed from Far Cry 5. A remasted version of Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon will be included in the season pass as well. Far Cry 6 is set to release on October 7, 2021.
To end their press conference, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed Arkane Studios Austin division’s next game in the form of Redfall. Though only a cinematic trailer was shown, Redfall will set players in a stylish open world version of the town of Redfall, Massachusetts as the town is overrun by a vampire invasion. Players will be able to take on the vampire threat alone or team up with three other friends. Redfall is set to release during Summer 2022.
8. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
After a long development time, we finally saw Ubisoft’s game based in James Cameron’s Avatar universe. Titled Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, we saw a short tease that showcased the beautiful world of Pandora. The game is set to be open world and tell a new story that’s not related to the story of the films. Players are set to be a member of the Na’vi and will explore the Western Frontier of Pandora which looks to be inhabited by the Na’vi and a wide variety of Pandora’s fauna as well as the invading human forces looking to control Pandora. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to release at some point in 2022.
7. The Outer Worlds 2
To the surprise of many, Microsoft announced Obsidian’s next new game and a sequel to one of 2019’s best games with The Outer Worlds 2. The game was announced with one of the cheekiest trailers of all of E3 that parodied the usual type of big game trailers. It would show a big field “to make the game seem big, slow motion and people running and shooting “to make everything seem cool,” and a silhouetted hero “because the developers haven’t finished the design, or story, gameplay.” Obsidian is still currently working on Grounded as well as Avowed, which was announced last Summer, so it may be a while before we see The Outer Worlds 2.
6. Starfield
To start the Xbox and Bethesda E3 press conference, Bethesda’s Pete Hines took the stage to finally show off another teaser as well as a release date for Bethesda Games Studios next game, Starfield. Though it was only a short cinematic teaser, it gave us a hint at the premise of the game aside from just “Skyrim in space.” The teaser showed a ship known as the Constellation prepping for take off as a narrator states that this will be humanity’s final journey. Starfield is set to release on November 11, 2022.
5. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
Capcom spent a lot of time during their short presentation on the upcoming Western release of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Capcom showed off some new gameplay features that The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles has compared to the original Japanese versions of the games. One of which occurs when working with Herlock Sholmes known as the “Dance of Deduction” which will allow players to observe mistakes in the detective’s logic within his accusations of suspects. Also, players will be able to take part in “Summation Examinations” where they deduce jurors’ statements and try to sway the jury with these abilities. We don’t have long until these spinoff prequels are in our hands. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is set to release on July 27, 2021.
4. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Square Enix’s E3 presentation was dominated by the long rumored Guardians of the Galaxy game from Eidos Montreal. The game sees player take control of the leader of the Guardians, Peter Quill as the other Guardians help out on the battlefields and accompany you through the world. In Peter’s shoes, player will be forced to make decisions that will have ramifications throughout the game. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy also looks gorgeous, combat looks fun and engaging, and the characters all look distinctively different compared to their well known MCU counterparts. The best part is that it’s coming very soon! Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is set to release on October 26, 2021.
3. Halo Infinite
After aiming to be a Xbox Series X|S launch title and then being delayed at least an entire year, we got another look at Halo Infinite during E3. A short campaign teaser showed Master Chief interacting with a new “fake Cortana” AI discussing the deletion of the real Cortana however things have gone awry and it’s up to Chief to find out exactly what happened. The big focus this year though was an emphasis on the game’s multiplayer. Tons of new stuff is coming to multiplayer including new vehicles, weapons, and abilities. These include things like grappling up to flying vehicles to hijack them and being able to grab weapons while in midair. There’s also going to a plethora of customization for players’ Spartans as well as a battle pass that will wield even more rewards for players. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a firm release date set for the game as of yet. Halo Infinite is set to release sometime this Holiday season.
2. Metroid Dread
With Metroid Prime 4 still deep in development, Nintendo decided to unveil a new 2D entry in the series with Metroid Dread. Teased as Metroid 5, Metroid Dread will be the first game to move the series’s main timeline forward since Metroid Fusion. The game sees Samus in new armor with new abilities being stalked by a new robotic enemy across a new planet. This is the first new 2D Metroid game in 19 years, and is sure to hold fans over until Metriod Prime 4 finally releases in the future. Metroid Dread is set to release later this year on October 8, 2021.
1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel
Honestly, to no surprise, Nintendo’s heaviest hitter, and one of the most anticipated games among gamers, The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes our top spot. Nintendo ended their E3 Direct showing off how the game will take Link to the skies of Hyrule in his next adventure. There were also tons of little hints at plenty more such as what looks like a revived Ganondorf, Link sporting a new enhanced arm with new abilities, and a plethora of new enemies for Link to take down. Nintendo is aiming to release The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel sometime in 2022.
