Murasaki Baby coming to Vita in September

Murasaki Baby, the highly anticipated debut release from Ovosonico and Massimo Guarini, has finally been given a loose US release date for September.

Ovosonico announced earlier today via Twitter and Facebook that their quirky and hard to peg game Murasaki Baby will premier in the US on PlayStation Network exclusively for the Vita some time in September.

Murasaki Baby has received a lot of media interest since its first showing during Gamescom 2013. The game is set in a dark, demented world through which players are expected to guide a young girl on a desperate search for her mother. With a visual style highly reminiscent of the art of Edward Gorey and an atmosphere akin to the same, the game’s aesthetic provides a stark counterpoint to the throng of retro-inspired Indie games on the market. To work with this the game is built around a reality-warping mechanic where the mood of the level can change the way puzzles work, inspiring players to delve into both dreams and nightmares as they strive to help the game’s protagonist to find her mother.

Although Murasaki Baby is the first release for Ovosonico, the creative director behind the game is far from inexperienced. Massimo Guarini has been working in the game industry for a long time, on everything from the Rayman and Tomb Raider series through to the recent Suda 51 project Shadows of the Damned. While indie development is a new direction for him, his history with platforming and puzzle titles speaks well for the direction Murasaki Baby is taking.

Murasaki Baby has been built from the ground up for the PS Vita, and will rely heavily on the unit’s touch pad for its puzzle solving gameplay. If the game manages to live up to the expectations and hype surrounding it upon release, it will give the Vita yet another high-quality exclusive to boost the console’s slowly improving library.

With its final release only three months away, Murasaki Baby continues to hold the attention of many expectant gamers looking forward to its one of a kind puzzle solving experience. The title will be available exclusively as a download on the PlayStation Network, so make sure you have plenty of storage space available on your Vita when it comes out, since all arrows are pointing to Murasaki Baby being one of the must-have indie exclusives for the handheld.
