Mortal Kombat 11’s Halloween Event Features New Brutalities, Skins, and More

The gory, over-the-top Mortal Kombat series definitely ranks high on any list of Halloween-appropriate fighting games, and to kick off this year’s Halloween season NetherRealm Studios launched a free event on Friday of this week that brings the spooky vibe to Mortal Kombat 11.

According to the trailer announcing the themed event, it will bring a “haunted vibe” with a range of content that includes the Trick or Treat Boss Tower, a Towers of Time run with four new boss fights with different Halloween themed modifiers. There are flying witches and bats, exploding pumpkins, rising gravestones, and sprinting black cats that complicate these boss matches.” The flying witch modifier can cause characters to transform completely into a dinosaur of all things, creating an opening to take big damage.

Players who participate in the Halloween event will be able to unlock new Brutalities, Halloween-themed “konsumable” items, banners, and other rewards. The Masquerade Skin Pack is also available now, and the pack features a Day of the Dead Cavalera costume for Liu Kang, a Wicked Witch outfit for Jade that gives her a green tint to her skin like the villain from The Wizard of Oz but cuter, and a tribute costume called “Psyko Killer” for Kabal that’s based off of past-DLC guest fighter Jason Vorhees from the movie Friday the 13th, who appeared in Mortal Kombat X. This Masquerade Skin Pack costs $5.99.

The event is limited-time only and lasts until November 1st. A friendly PSA from a Twitter user in the announcement thread shares that Jaxx’s Krypt event is also back on Sunday the 26th for a very limited time of three hours.

Mortal Kombat 11 has received several updates since it’s highly successful launch, including Team Raids, new Variations, and additional DLC characters, the most recent being T-800, The Terminator as portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Mortal Kombat 11 and the first Kombat Pack are available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. The game will also be available for purchase on Google’s upcoming game streaming platform Stadia.

Angel Tuohy: I'm a fan of a lot of different games in different genres, and my favorites are Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Tekken, Persona, Resident Evil, and NieR. I think games are a brilliant way to tell a story, but it's important to me that the game is fun to play too. I've recently received my Master's degree in Literature.
