Media Molecule wants Dreams Creators to be able to Publish Their Creations on Other Platforms

Media Molecule’s long in development Dreams had its Early Access release earlier this year. Currently, the game allows for users to use a variety of tools to create their own games inside Dreams or to play other users’ creations. Now, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the studio wants to allow users to publish their creations on other platforms aside from just PlayStation 4.

Media Molecule’s co-founder and art director Kareem Ettouney spoke to GI.biz during a Q&A session at the View Conference in Turin, Italy, and discussed the possibility of users being able to bring things they have made inside the game to more than just the PlayStation ecosystem. Apparently, the studio is in the process of creating a commercial license for users to be able to commercially use outside of just Dreams. Thus, this would allow users to publish their creations on new platforms.

It was also asked if the studio was looking into the possibility of bringing Dreams itself to other platforms such as Mac and PC. Ettouney would respond by stating, “The answer to every question is ‘yes’, but Dreams needs to reach a lot of people first.” Then, he would continue with, “Our goal for Dreams is to last for 20 years, and keep expanding it and keep adding to it and keep improving it.” Ettouney would also mention the studio is looking into eventually releasing a Pro version of Dreams that would come with more content.

This would be a very unique situation if this all comes to fruition. This is due to Media Molecule being a studio that is completely owned by Sony and falls into the company’s first party lineup. No game from a first party Sony studio has ever made nor has content from one of these games ever been released on another platform. Thus, it’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store for Media Molecule and Dreams.
