Moon Hunters Eclipses Kickstarter Goal

We wrote on the upcoming magic-centered RPG Moon Hunters, and how it was pushing for funding on Kickstarter. Today, the amount of contributions almost triples the initial goal. What does this mean for its developers and gamers? It means more, for both parties.

Kitfox games received a bit of marketing assistance from the Greenlight-esque Square Enix Collective program. However the word spread, Moon Hunters reached their funding goal in less than 48 hours. The goal was $45,000 CAD, and the current funding is more than $120,000 CAD. The Kickstarter will be up until Sept. 26, two weeks from the time of this writing.

This funding has helped Moon Hunters reach several stretch goals. An extension for a PS4 release (to be released after the PC version) is one of them, and the next stretch goal –$135,000– will give the title a release on fellow PlayStation system, PS Vita. A digital art book, a product of another stretch goal, will be included for all those who have pledged $30 or more. Online co-op is another addition for PC users, due to the success of the funding.

In-game content as also been added due to stretch goals. A new character, new friendly faction and “familiars” are scheduled for annexation. A new cooking module will also be available in the game’s release.

$145,000 CAD in funding on the game’s Kickstarter will provide several localized languages: French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. $155,000 will increase the variety of enemies in the game. Raising slightly more than double of the current funding amount, $250,000, will bring a Wii U version to both of the system owners’ screens.

Tanya Short, the lead designer of Moon Hunters, spoke on the success of the Kickstarter:

The past couple of weeks have been really amazing, and all of us at Kitfox would like to thank the community for their support. It’s been pretty overwhelming, but we’re super-excited we can afford to work on our dream game!

Phil Elliott, the project lead at Square Enix Collective, also made a comment in regards to the funding:

We’re all really happy for the Kitfox team, and can’t wait to play Moon Hunters once it’s finished. We’ve learned a huge amount over the past few months, and as we continue to support Moon Hunters, we’re looking forward to supporting the next project in Black The Fall as well.

Utilizing the momentum for the project’s triumph, Square Enix Collective announced its latest venture. Side-scrolling shooter and puzzle hybrid, Black The Fall, will also seek financing through Kickstarter, in collaboration with Collective.
