Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Ships Over 2.5 Million in its First Week, Rajang to be Added as a Free Update in October

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has been out for exactly one week now, and it’s already hitting huge milestone for the franchise. Announced by Capcom via a Press Release, the expansion has already shipped more than 2.5 million units worldwide. In addition, the Press Release also states that with this new influx of numbers, the game itself has now shipped approximately 13.1 million units, the very first Capcom franchise to hit this mark. Cumulatively, the sales numbers for the Monster Hunter franchise now exceeds more than 58 million units sold.

To put this in perspective, Capcom’s other top selling title, Resident Evil 5has sold roughly 7.5 million units in it’s entire lifetime. Monster Hunter has managed to trounce that statistic in just a little over one year, an astounding feat. Even more impressive is that it managed to do this with just one expansion, whereas big AAA titles only see these numbers with numerous additional DLC’s over the course of their lifetime.

This continues the long string of success that Capcom has been having since 2018, which started with none other then Monster Hunter World in January of that year. This was followed by the critically acclaimed remake of Resident Evil 2, and then Devil May Cry V which was also well received. World was sub-sequentially released for PC later in 2018 where it gained a whole new audience.

Iceborne added a plethora of new features, one of which is the new Hunter Helper system where players can assist others in completing the main story. On top of that, Capcom is planning to increase the replay value by putting in more Monsters, such as the Rajang who will be added later in October as a free update. For those who don’t know, the Rajang is essentially a giant baboon with devil-like horns, and the power of electricity.

The Rajang is one of the older Monsters from the series, making his debut in Monster Hunter 2 way back in 2006. Along with that, players will be able to obtain special Rajang armor when they take him down, which is especially nice since he’s generally considered an end game Monster. Capcom is firing on all cylnders right now, and from the looks of things, they aren’t letting this hype train stop anytime soon.

The Rajang update will release for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne on October 10, Thursday. The Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion is available now for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the PC version scheduled for January 2020.
