Monster Hunter World continues to be a highly successful endeavor for Capcom. This is most evident with the expansion, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, as Capcom has announced that it has now shipped more than 5 million units worldwide. This is quite jump from the initial 2.5 million that sold in just under a week when it launched in September. These numbers also include the PC version, which launched little more than two months ago.
This has also propelled the game in general, as Monster Hunter World has now shipped more than 15 million units ( as of January). This makes Monster Hunter World the first Capcom title to ever achieve this number. In addition, the Monster Hunter series has been benefiting from the runaway success of Monster Hunter World. Thanks to this, the franchise has now reached a cumulative sales total of more than 62 million units, which was recorded as of today. It’s also important to note that these statistics account for both physical and digital sales.
You can argue that Monster Hunter has literally carried Capcom back to prominence, but let us not forget that the company has been on a roll of excellent titles these past couple of years. This includes the outstanding Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry V, with the former being considered one of the best titles in 2019. Capcom is looking to extend their streak with the upcoming Resident Evil 3, which is due out next month.
As the year continues, it will be interesting to see what else Capcom does for the Monster Hunter franchise. It’s possible that they will unveil yet another expansion for Monster Hunter World, or maybe another entry for the series. Either way, the company has obtained a plethora of fans, new and old thanks to Monster Hunter World, and at this rate, the numbers will more than likely continue to increase.
