Monster Hunter Rise has quickly become one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the entire history of the franchise. Despite being only timed-exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, Capcom’s extremely popular series hasn’t slowed down one bit and the die-hard fan base came out once again to show their support. The title sold more than 4 million copies in the first three days alone, which is already an insane achievement, but now Capcom has announced some more impressive statistics to the game’s prestige. The company has announced that Monster Hunter Rise has now shipped more than 5 million units worldwide, and doing so in just over a week since the game launched.
As if this wasn’t enough, this new surge of sales numbers has pushed the Monster Hunter franchise’s overall lifetime statistic to more than 70 million sold. To put this in perspective, Capcom’s other extremely successful franchise, Resident Evil, has sold more than 100 million units since it started in 1996. Monster Hunter, which began in 2004, is now sitting at 70 million copies sold and is nearing the former’s threshold at a rapid pace. Some further perspective between the two series is their total lifetime difference is 25 years (Resident Evil) and 17 years (Monster Hunter).
Let’s also not forget that Monster Hunter Rise is also scheduled to launch for the PC platform sometime in 2022, which will only add to those overall numbers. Capcom implemented the same plan for their last entry, Monster Hunter World, which went onto become one of the most popular and successful titles in the company’s history. Capcom experienced similar success when they shipped the title’s expansion, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, which drew in some outstanding numbers both on the home console and PC.
On top of all that, and according to Japanese outlet Famitsu, Monster Hunter Rise is now the third-best-selling launch title for the Nintendo Switch in its native Japan. The two Switch titles that stand tall as the two best are none other than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and the unstoppable juggernaut of 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
