Capcom’s sales for the first fiscal half of 2018 achieved a record high for the company. According to a press release from Capcom today, net sales for the company increased to 43,327 million yen (roughly $385 million USD), a 28.5% increase year-over-year. Capcom attributes the success mainly to Monster Hunter: World, “which contributed to growth of the Company in the previous fiscal year, not only gaining further popularity through the expansion of its user base but also boosting profits through the strong performance of the Steam version for PC that was released in August.” Other games that were name-dropped in the press release include Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and Mega Man X Legacy Collection, stating both “performed well thanks to a dedicated fan base and strong brand capabilities.” Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate released August 28 for Nintendo Switch also “enjoyed robust sales owing to its consistent popularity.”

Another milestone hit by Monster Hunter: World, highlighted by the press release, is 10 million units shipped as of August 2018. The game is the first single-title to reach that milestone in Capcom history, as well as their fastest selling game to date. Since its launch in January, the game has been touted as a “driving force” towards the company’s growth within the digital contents division, which is the video game operations segment of the company. The digital contents division alone saw a 69.8% increase in net sales, from 20,138 million yen to 34,195 million yen (roughly $179 million USD to $304 million) and an astounding 206.8% increase in operating income, from 3,830 million yen to 11,751 million yen (roughly $34 million to $104 million) from the same term during the last fiscal year.
Monster Hunter: World is available on PS4 and Xbox One, as well as Microsoft Windows.
