Monster Energy to Sponsor Controversial Call of Duty League for Seasons 2023 and 2024

Monster Energy has coordinated with Activision Blizzard to officially sponsor the Call of Duty League. As of today, the sponsorship is planned to last for the remainder of the 2023 season and the entirety of the 2024 season. Starting at this weekend’s Monster Match Up in Ohio before the Las Vegas Championship Weekend, Monster Energy will be sponsoring events for fans. These include a Monster Energy Pre-Game, and a Monster Energy Winner Spotlight. Competitors in the Call of Duty League will be well-fueled until the end of the season this June, and again come 2024.

“The Call of Duty League is known for its electrifying energy,” said Activision Blizzard’s Jack Harari of the popular first-person shooter and war simulation game. He continued, “Monster Energy is the ideal partner to bring that hype to the next level…Beginning with Major IV this week and continuing through the 2024 season, the CDL and Monster Energy will up the ante when it comes to keeping the League fueled.” Monster Energy has had a relationship with the Call of Duty League in the past. “Monster Energy’s passion and support for the Call of Duty esports scene goes back almost a decade, to our first partnerships with Team EnVy and Evil Geniuses,” wrote Monster Energy in a press release, “in 2021 Monster also announced its sponsorship of Call of Duty World Champion Tyler “TeePee” Polchow.”

Since the release of the first Call of Duty game in 2003, the massively popular franchise has weathered controversy for its alleged financial connections to the United States military-entertainment complex. While the extent of this involvement is highly debated, at the very least Call of Duty has been accused of promoting conservative foreign policy agendas with its storylines, and The Guardian alleged ties with various government agencies in 2014 expose. Despite this information, Call of Duty has largely solidified its place as one of America’s most iconic games. While only time will tell, its current partnership with Monster Energy may help the brand secure itself further.

Per Monster Energy: “The Call of Duty League Major IV tournament starts this week, April 20-23, at 10:30 a.m. PT each day — catch all the action on YouTube and Twitch.”
