Mario Kart Tour Surpasses 90 Million Downloads in its First Week

Mario Kart Tour has continued to grow since its launch last week, when it surpassed 20 million downloads within the first 24 hours of its release. Now, week later, Mario Kart Tour has surpassed 90 million downloads, making it Nintendo’s fastest mobile game launch, according to Sensor Tower estimates. Mario Kart Tour’s closest competitor in terms of Nintendo launches is Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which accumulated just 14.3 million downloads in its first week. Super Mario Run is Nintendo’s third best mobile launch, with 13 million downloads in its first week.

While Mario Kart Tour is far and away the most successful in terms of downloads, its player spending falls behind Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes thus far. Super Mario Run generated $16.1 million in player spending in its first week while Fire Emblem Heroes generated $28.2 million. Interestingly, Super Mario Run requires player spending to access the full game while Fire Emblem Heroes is free-to-play. Mario Kart Tour has generated $12.7 million so far, though this may be in part due to a free two-week trial for the Gold Pass, so players haven’t been charged for the $4.99/month in-game subscription yet.

In terms of mobile devices, Android has been the most popular platform for Mario Kart Tour thus far. Android devices accumulated 53.5 million downloads, making up 59.5% of the 90 million downloads. Meanwhile, iOS devices generated 36.5 million downloads. Looking at the game on a global scale, the U.S. had the most downloads—13.2 million, or 14.7%. Next was Brazil with 10.7 million, or 11.8%, followed by Mexico with 5.8 million, or 6.4%.

The App Store saw the majority of player spending, with iOS users spending $9.6 million, which makes up 75.5% of the total $12.7 million generated so far. Google Play users spent $3.1 million, or 24.5%. Sensor Tower estimates that Mario Kart Tour has a revenue per download of $0.26 on iOS and $0.06 on Android. In terms of regions, U.S. players have spent the most money on the game, totaling at $5.8 million, which makes up 45.4% of the total revenue so far. Next came Japan with $4 million, or 31.3%, and then France with $752k, or 6.4%.

Mario Kart Tour is available now on the App Store and Google Play Store.
