Japanese RPG ‘Valkyria: Azure Revolution’ to Come out in US in 2017

The latest installment to the Japanese role-playing game, Valkyria Chronicles, is set to be released in January of 2017 for Japan. But yesterday, game developer Media Vision announced that the game will also be seeing a release in Norh America sometime in the second quarter of 2017, according to Geeky Gadgets.

Valkyria Chronicles marks the latest title in the Valkyria Revolution Japanese RPG series. The game is a real-time RPG that consists of strategy elements, which involves players setting up and preparing a base, achieving objectives through battlefields, and then returning to their base again. Players take the role of Amleth, a commanding officer of a small country (Jutland) that is being blockaded by Rus, a more powerful empire. Setting its sights on a rare and valuable mineral that they’ve discovered (azure mineral Ragnite), Rus is aggressively seeking to expand its territory to achieve its economic goals. The game features several supernatural elements, including the Ragnite mineral, which has magical properties and Valkyria beings, which inhabit the planet. Jutland is, however, trying to seek independence from Rus and they begin releasing their own elite force of anti-Valkyria units to defeat the Rus empire.

Valkyria Revolution was going to be released in Japan on the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Vita but now it looks like Media Vision will also be releasing it for PlayStation owners in North America too, along with an Xbox One release in the U.S. The Vita version on the PS will only be available as a digital download though, according to Sega. PS4 and Xbox One owners will be able to buy the game in both a digital copy and physical copy.

Revolution is a game that Media Vision tried to make more distinct in comparison with the series other’s titles. The new installment is more action-based. While it’s earlier titles were more turn-based and militaristic RPGs, Valkyria Revolution is seeking to shake up the combat system. Below is a one-hour gameplay video of the new game:

Valkyria Revolution is set to come out in Japan next month and sometime in the second quarter of 2017 for North America.
