Iron Maiden’s Legacy of the Beast Mobile Game Bids Farewell After Nearly a Decade

Developed by Navigator Games in July 2016, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast is a mobile RPG centered around the Iron Maiden’s iconic mascot, Eddie. He appears in various incarnations throughout the game, inspired by the band’s lore. Players are tasked with traversing across multiple dangerous worlds in order to recollect fragments of Eddie’s shattered soul. Along the way, they must overcome enemies through turn-based combat and assemble a team of warriors. Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast stood out as a mobile RPG, with its unique integration of Iron Maiden’s music and themes. The game has featured continuous updates and events since its release, including limited-time collaborations with notable figures in metal music.

Fans of Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast received unfortunate news earlier this week when the game announced its closure after eight years of activity. Navigator Games broke the news via a post on the game’s official Facebook page, reflecting on the game’s past successes and bidding players’ farewell. The post states that despite the game’s “incredible longevity and popularity with over 6 million players,” the company wants to leave it behind in favor of “new projects with Iron Maiden” down the line. It concludes by encouraging players to partake in a 4-week celebration, featuring exclusive character giveaways, increased soul odds on rare and legendary souls, free giveaway packs, and more gifts.

The game released a post today via X (formerly Twitter) thanking players for eight years of support. It reminds players to “stay connected with [their] clan” by communicating through various social medial platforms. Players are asked to share their favorite memories in the post’s comment section.

Both the celebration event and the game itself will end on December 31, 2024. Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast will no longer be playable once developer Navigator Games removes the title from app stores, making the date a foreboding one for dedicated fans. If anyone is interested in playing the game before its gone, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast is currently available for free on iOS and Android devices.

I am captivated by video games and how they function as a story telling medium. Mobile games, specifically, are increasingly complex forms of entertainment that can be played on the go. While many video games are available only to those who can afford expensive consoles and computers, mobile games are designed for the average person.
