Insomniac Games is reportedly developing another AAA game, specifically a multiplayer title, alongside their two upcoming titles, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. The news came directly from a 2022 interview with Insomniac project director Erin Eberhardt which surfaced on social media.
The interview from Full Sail University took place in 2022 and resurfaced online, it included former Blizzard employee Eberhardt along with three other game developers. In the interview at one point, Eberhardt who now works for Insomniac as their project director stated that there is in fact an unannounced title in the works. The unannounced Insomniac game won’t merely be a smaller endeavor from the studio, as Eberhardt indicated it’ll be a full AAA experience. And while the clip may be just under a year old from 2022, the “unannounced project” Eberhardt refers to can’t be Wolverine, as it was already announced at the time.

Insomniac has been known for some of the highest quality AAA games in Sony’s exclusively owned studios, seeing the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart, the Ratchet and Clank franchise as a whole, and many other PlayStation exclusives.
The unannounced project is also reported to be a multiplayer title, as recent job postings from Insomniac indicate a brand-new multiplayer IP. Considering the time since the interview took place, and Eberhart’s hiring for a multiplayer title going back to late 2021, a now 2-year development is the usual for AAA games which take years to develop.
It’s all speculation when Insomniac will reveal their multiplayer title, of course, they still have Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 set for release on the PlayStation 5 on October 20th, 2023. Wolverine which was announced in September 2021 is still TBD.
Sony has been betting big on their exclusively owned studios for vast multiplayer experiences. Last year, Sony acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion and reportedly has nearly 10 live service games in the works set to be released before March 2026.
