Oftentimes the resources collected in video games serve no special purpose beyond being a way to track progress or invest into more resources one way or another. Other instances allow these resources to become the backbone of another game mode beyond the resources gathering and exploration, such as with the upcoming adventure game, Humblets, which sees players collecting cards out in the wild for use in friendly games with monsters. Following the end of the game’s Kickstarter campaign less than a week ago, the developers, Berry Bite, released the game’s first trailer of their official YouTube channel.
Humblet will follow the journey of the player character, who is themselves a humblet. Their job will be to explore and gather materials to decorate and create new things. According to the Steam store page, the game is set to take place in a procedurally generated world, allowing hidden items to and areas to change with each playthrough in accordance with the exploration theme. The trailer reveals some of the possible terrain features such as giant mushrooms and sprawling hills.
Throughout the trailer, the player character gathers materials in a variety of ways, including cutting trees, digging for treasure, and fishing. The most attention is given to a fallen star that reveals a card when broken. These cards can be used to battle against monsters found in the overworld. Each card has corresponding stats and unique functions, with the option available to player to even combine two different cards together. While the exact rules of the card game have yet to be revealed, the trailer showcases a resource system that players need to keep track of throughout the game.
With the friendly tone showed off in the trailer, it comes as no surprise that the battle system for Humblet is equally peaceful. The game has no announced release date, but is set to release on PC.
