Horizon Zero Dawn Release Pushed To February 28th 2017

Creators of the Killzone series Guerrilla Games announced Horizon Zero Dawn, a game where you fight giant robot monsters, at E3 last year and after that things were pretty quiet, but nearly a year later Guerrilla Games has given us new information.

On the PlayStation Blog a couple days ago, Guerrilla Games‘ Managing Director Herman Hulst showed off the game in a new trailer, which focuses on the game’s lead character Aloy.

The trailer introduces us to Aloy, an outcast in her tribe for reasons unknown to her. The plot looks to revolve around Aloy’s mysterious origin and her quest to discover it.Throughout the trailer we get a look at the stunning landscapes and massive robotic animals that players will be able to hunt/fight.

Overall, this trailer is filled with eye candy as well as intrigue.

Unfortunately, all that eye candy takes time to make and Guerrilla Games won’t be able to hit the initial 2016 release date that was announced at E3. As Hulst said in the post:

As you can see in the trailer, we’ve decided to push the release date for Horizon Zero Dawn to February 28, 2017. We know many of you have been anxious to play the game…however we also want to ensure that Horizon Zero Dawn lives up to the visuals and gameplay quality that our games are known for.

That desire to make the game as pretty as possible could just be the studio wanting to put out the best product they can. However, the delay could be due to Guerrilla Games getting the game “Neo Ready”.

We reported that as part of Sony’s plan to make an upgraded PS4 (codenamed Neo) all PS4 games that come out in or after October would need to have a “Neo Mode” added to the game which would boost frame rate and resolution. It’s possible that Horizon Zero Dawn was on track to hit that release window when word came down about the Neo, so the release date was pushed to add in the functionality.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a PS4 exclusive and is set to release on February 28th 2017.
