Homefront: The Revolution Is Free To Play On Steam For The Weekend

Steam continuously has a game for free as part of their weekend promotion. This weekend, Homefront: The Revolution is the lucky title. During this period, according to quote on GameSpot “The entire game will be unlocked and available to sample, including the vast 30-hour single player campaign and full access to Resistance Mode, Homefront’s online co-operative experience, together with the new Missions released since launch,”. These modes will be available until 1 pm PST on September 11th.

Earlier this month there was a patch that was released for PC and consoles. This patch helped increase the frames per second as well as the overall performance of the game. By having the game for free this weekend this could help introduce a skeptical crowd to the maximum potential of their game. Also to help complement this promotion, the game will also be on sale to buy. So if people that download the free trial, but would want to play it beyond the weekend can purchase it at a discounted price of $23.99 for the base game instead of $39.99 or $29.99 for the Homefront: The Revolution – Freedom Fighter Bundle instead of $59.99. Although the game has gotten a lot of negative reviews, it does not hurt to try out a free game.

For one review, critic Scott Buttersworth of GameSpot stated that “Its substantial story campaign is impressively rich and its shooting can be tense and fun, but half-baked stealth, an unfulfilling story, and a vast menagerie of technical inadequacies drag the overall experience into disappointing mediocrity,” So while the game does have some strong points in the story and gaming mechanics, it is not without its flaws in its stealth and basic story ending. At least the developers at Deep Silver acknowledge the fact that the game had some rocky development issues, but does not take away from the fact that the game is lacking in some points upon initial release. Most of these issues however were hopefully addressed and fixed in the most recent patch and will be able to get a lot of people to consider purchasing it after it is free for this weekend.
