Hideo Kojima Talks About Death Stranding’s Open World And Online Components

Ahead of the Tokyo Game Show, kicking off later this week, Sony held their annual conference. During the conference, Hideo Kojima took the stage to talk a little bit about his mysterious new game Death Stranding, Kotaku reports.

This is the first time since its unveiling during E3 this year that we are getting new information on the game and from what it sounds like Kojima has some lofty goals for the game.

Kojima has said previously, back before Death Stranding‘s official reveal, that the game would appeal to fans of the Uncharted series, but Kojima wants to take this game a bit further than the climbing and shooting in those games.

I’m aiming for a new type of action. With Death Stranding, I’d like to offer the next step, the future of gaming.

According to Kojima, Death Stranding will be an open world action game with online co-op. He didn’t elaborate on the extent of the online mechanics.

One thing Kojima did say about the co-op is that it won’t be restricted to players fighting each other. He said that most games have co-op centered around fighting. People play solo and beat-up a computer, join an online game to beat-up their friends, or call a friend to join beating up the computer some more. So Kojima is going step away from that with Death Stranding.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Kojima game with a heavy story focus, so fans can look forward to that being in the game.

Kojima ended his time on Death Stranding with a bit of bitter-sweet news. With a studio and official engine picked out the game is now officially in development. So don’t expect to be playing the game anytime soon.

We’re starting to get into full-blown development.

Whenever Death Stranding comes out it will be released for all versions of the PS4 as timed exclusive before launching on PC.
