God of War Director’s Next Project in the Works

Rumors are circulating in the gaming industry and on Twitter that the Director of PlayStation 4’s God of War, Cory Barlog, may be working on a new project that will be on a whole new level. After God of War’s release this past April, it went on the be nominated for and win several gaming awards at the Golden Joystick Awards 2018 including: Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, and PlayStation Game of the Year. With that success and this teased news, fans are excited to see what will come next for the creative mind.

The director of the Warcraft movie, Duncan Jones, recently met with Barlog to get his feedback on some of his own script drafts. In the process, Jones perhaps learned some information about Barlog’s next project. In the two tweets below, he hints at Barlog’s talent exceeding beyond the God of War franchise and that Jones was “the one who uncovered the scoop that [Barlog] has not retired.”

Some have speculated that Barlog’s next game will be a shot at a successful Superman title. At PAX West 2018, he took part in a panel discussing the faults of video games attempting to bring Superman to gaming devices. Barlog brought several ideas to the panel of what he would do if designated to make the next Superman game, stating one of those ideas as, “playing with this concept of Persona. Young Clark Kent – you have to go to school but you also are also uncovering that you’re the greatest American hero with your powers and it’s a sort of awkward coming of age idea that you have to balance.”

However, his participation on the panel does not necessarily mean that Superman is next for Barlog. In the interview above with the Skill Up YouTube channel Barlog admitted, “I really would love to create something of my own next, something that really is truly 100% coming from my original vision.” Whether it’s Superman, the next God of War, or something completely new, the gaming community will be eagerly awaiting Barlog’s next project.
