Gamescom 2014: Nom Nom Galaxy to Blast-off for Newest PlayStation Home and Handheld Consoles

Indie developers Double Eleven and Q-Games announced that their project, Nom Nom Galaxy, is headed for release on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. This announcement is in coordinance with Sony’s reveal at Gamescom 2014. An early build of Nom Nom Galaxy is currently available to take for a test run, for those who are, or will be, at Gamescom.

Nom Nom Galaxy is part of Q-Games’ “PixelJunk” series. The game joins Monsters Ulitmate and Shooter Ultimate as games in the series that were brought to the PlayStation console realm. Unlike these two “Ultimate” titles, however, Nom Nom Galaxy is co-developed by the Strategic Content team of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

According to a press release, all three developing parties share zeal to be working with each other, and expect a quality game. Lee Hutchinson, CEO of Double Eleven, said he feels that Nom Nom Galaxy is the pinnacle of Q-Games’ projects, and that it is a big undertaking. Founder of Q-Games, Dylan Cuthbert, said the development team was able to focus on the fun factor of the game more than previous titles under Q-Games’ belt.

The self-proclaimed “genre melter” will include co-op based gameplay involving the development and maintenance of “an interstellar soup factory.” PS4 and Vita owners will be able to experience this co-operative experience together, as cross-platform play is enabled for both systems. Moreover, co-op is on a drop-in basis, so the game doesn’t have to end if one player has to, for some reason, maintain a tangible soup factory in the domain of Earth. Cross-play for the game is supported both locally and online.

Senior Business Development Manager for Strategic Content at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and outspoken PlayStation and indie game enthusiast, Shahid Ahmad, spoke on the PlayStation collaboration for Nom Nom Galaxy:

Together [Double Eleven and Q-Games], they blend technical prowess and design flair to perfection, serving up game after excellent game. We’re delighted to be working with them again on Nom Nom Galaxy, which is shaping up to be their best collaboration yet for PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®Vita.

According to the press release, more enhancements to the game, as well as community challenges, will be announced in the future. Updates and additional information are found at the game’s website. For now, an Early Access version of the game can be found on Steam. It is currently available to PC users for the price of $19.99 USD.
