For the Uninitiated, 343 Industries Has Confirmed That Halo: Infinite is in Fact Halo 6

When Halo: Infinite as announced back in July at E3 2018, fans were a little confused, as little to no more information was shown during the Microsoft Press Conference. There were concerns that the game would be spin off as opposed to a direct sequel to Halo 5: Guardians, but these concerns were quickly dissipated with the game’s press release. However, despite this, many haven’t seen this information, and as a result, 343 Industries has gone on record to officially clarify that the upcoming title will be in fact a sequel.

During a Mixer broadcast, 343 Industries Lead Writer, Jeff Easterling stated “It is Halo 6. You should just consider it Halo 6. Don’t think of it as a weird prequel kind of thing. It’s the next story. It’s the next chapter in what is going on.” In addition to that, it’s already been confirmed that the games story will revolve around the main series protagonist, Master Chief, which some fans will welcome back with open arms after splitting time with Locke in the last game. The decision to remove the number from the title is an interesting one, but not as far fetched as you would think. Back in 2014, the head of 343 Industries, Bonnie Ross, spoke on the subject.

At some point, we do want to stop numbering. Especially on Xbox One. At some point we need to drop the number and still know you’ve got a big story coming. We don’t want to be Halo 17, when Master Chief’s like 80. We’re not Final Fantasy, we can’t do it.

While it’s great that were finally getting some more information about Halo: Infinite, it still isn’t very much. Fans are, at the very least, waiting for a release date/time frame, and of course how it will tie into the story of Halo 5: Guardians. The plot has changed and evolved to the point where if your not on the up and up, then you’ll be very lost playing Halo: Infinite. Microsoft will be present at Gamescom 2018, so hopefully we’ll have some more information by then.
