Nintendo’s first official sales report since the launch of the Switch is in. The report accounts for the time between the Switch’s launch on March 3 through March 31. In this time, the Switch has sold 600,000 units in Japan, 1.2 million units in the Americas and 940,000 units in what the report refers to as “Other,” which accounts for Europe, Australia and basically anywhere outside Japan and the Americas. This brings the Switch’s total sales to 2.74 million units worldwide.
While these are excellent numbers, they’re still not quite as good as Nintendo’s best-selling console, the Wii. In its first month, the Wii sold 1.14 million units in Japan, 1.25 million units in the Americas and 800,000 units in “Other,” giving it a total of 3.19 million units sold worldwide, according to Nintendo sales report from 2007.
The new sales report also goes into how many Switch games have been sold in its first month. 890,000 games have been sold in Japan, 2.86 million in the Americas and 1.71 million in “Other,” bringing the total to 5.46 million games sold worldwide. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild alone has sold 3.84 million copies worldwide, 2.76 million of which were copies for the Switch, while the remaining 1.08 million were Wii U copies. According to these numbers, the Switch version of Breath of the Wild has outsold the Switch itself by about 20,000 units, giving the game a more than 100% attachment rate to the console.
Toys ‘R Us and Best Buy recently announced that they will have more Switchs in stock starting tomorrow (April 28) for the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, so if you have been meaning to pick up a Switch but haven’t been able to due to unavailability, now’s your chance.
