Season 1 of the For Honor Faction War Goes to the Vikings

After a long war of many battles, the first iteration of the For Honor Faction War has finally come to an end, with the savage Vikings of frosty Valkenheim reigning supreme over their rival Knights and Samurai to the south.  The folks over at the UbiBlog have shared a helpful recap for this season’s war, which you can check out in the video below:

For those unfamiliar, the Faction War is an ongoing role-play-based challenge in For Honor, in which players swear allegiance to one of the game’s 3 competing factions and then deploy “war assets” on a constantly-changing map to help their faction gain and defend territory from the other two armies.  War assets are earned by simply competing in multiplayer matches, with victories earning more than defeats.  Players are not limited in their hero-selection by which faction they join up with, and are able to switch to a different faction if they like, although switching in the middle of a season can carry small penalties.

In this season of For Honor, competition was tight between the Vikings and Samurai, with the Knights unfortunately taking a distant 3rd place.  Remarkably, the Vikings were actually the smallest faction in the game by number of players, with 30% of the player base sworn to their cause, compared against 31% for the Knights and 39% for the Samurai.  The Vikings were able to take the win through strategic play; they deployed their war assets manually onto the field in specific locations, rather than let the computer do it automatically, with greater frequency than either of the other two factions.

For third place, every member of the Knights received three Scavenger Crates and a Bronze Emblem outline; each Samurai took home the second place prize of four Scavenger Crates and a Silver Emblem outline.  Viking players received five Scavenger Crates, the Season Winner Golden Emblem outline, and a new unique ornament for all 12 playable heroes to show off this season’s victory on the battlefield.

For now, the For Honor Faction War is in Off-Season, not part of any greater ongoing war efforts.  However, players can still deploy assets and compete for territory for their faction, and small rewards will still be given at the end based on the outcome of this short skirmish.

Season 2 of the For Honor Faction War begins May 16.
