Dr. Mario World Coming to Mobile Devices in July

Today, Nintendo announced that Dr. Mario World, an upcoming mobile title based on the Dr. Mario puzzle games, will release on iOS and Android on July 10. Like past Dr. Mario games, Dr. Mario World challenges players to match different colored capsules up with the viruses of corresponding colors. To clear the level, players must clear out all the viruses onscreen. Only a limited number of capsules will be provided in each level, requiring players to use them strategically to successfully eliminate all the viruses before the capsules run out.

They also released a video providing a first look at the game, featuring some screenshots and gameplay footage.

The video also breaks down Dr. Mario World’s microtransactions. Like other free-to-play games, Dr. Mario World only allows players a limited number of chances to actually play levels, in the form of hearts that restock themselves over a period of time. Alternatively, players can purchase an in-game currency, Diamonds, to buy more hearts and extend their gameplay. Diamonds can also be used to obtain items and more capsules if the player runs out before completing the level.

Diamonds can be purchased in different amounts. The smallest is a pack of 20 for $2 USD, and the largest is a pack of 1050 Diamonds for $70 USD.

Players will be able to choose from different doctor characters that each have a special skill to clear viruses more quickly. Other characters include Dr. Yoshi, Dr. Peach, and Dr. Toad, which can be purchased from an in-game shop by either Diamonds or coins—so players can use real-life money to unlock these characters.

Nintendo first announced Dr. Mario World earlier this year. After Dr. Mario World, Nintendo will release Mario Kart Tour, which has been in beta-testing in Japan.
