Coming from the publisher of many popular indie games, Devolver Digital is back with a fantasy action-adventure from Acid Nerve – which is probably one of the five unreleased games Devolver Digital teased at the end of 2020. This news was announced earlier today at the ID@Xbox games showcase earlier today where it appeared alongside other indie games that are coming to Xbox soon. These studios have previously worked together on another action-adventure game from 2015 called Titan Souls.
Death’s Door follows the protagonist, a Crow, as they go about their job monotonously reaping souls of the dead, however, one day, a soul gets stolen, and the Crow must track it down. On the journey to get the soul back, players will have to venture to “a realm untouched by death” and encounter corrupt and greedy enemies and use a variety of weapons, arrows, and magic to survive. Players can also alter their character’s stats in order to further ensure success and survival on their quest. On the way, players will “experience a somber yet darkly comedic tale” and uncover the reason for the Crows and the doors. The story in Death’s Door is intended to be more of a linear narrative while still allowing for some open-world exploration. Players will be able to plant seeds as they explore and reshape the environment, allowing for forest spirits to move in.
Death’s Door is coming out sometime during this upcoming summer for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Steam. Until then, Loop Hero, another one of Devolver Digital’s games, released earlier this month to ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam if players want to try that out in the meantime.
