Delta Force: Hawk Ops Mobile Set for Android Compatibility Test on November 6

Delta Force is a long-running series of first-person shooter video games centered around fictional concepts heavily inspired by the real-life U.S. Army Delta Force. Since the franchise’s release of Delta Force in 1998, sequels and offshoot games like Delta Force 2 (1999) and Delta Force: Xtreme (2005) have followed. The series is characterized by its continued realistic representation of the military and strategic tactical planning.

25 years after the Delta Force franchise’s first release, Tencent and TiMi Studios, the companies behind PUBG and Pokémon UNITE, are working on a new mobile game called Delta Force: Hawk Ops. The game’s developers have partnered with tech companies like Nvidia, AMD, and Intel, in order to make the game function in as a mobile medium and incorporate high quality graphics. Delta Force: Hawk Ops was announced at Gamescom in August 2023, along with the release of its official announcement trailer. The trailer depicts Black Hawk helicopters flying toward place that Mobile Gaming Insider assumes is Mogadishu, “a town featured in the movie Black Hawk Down.” After depicting the game in its story mode, the trailers transitions into clips of its multiplayer gameplay, which showcases new settings and weapons.

The game is set in 2035, contrasting from its predecessors rooted in the 1990s. Players will join a prestigious team of special operators who are tasked with area control, hostage rescue, and secret assassinations, all in an unusual futuristic environment. The game’s story mode will follow much of the film Black Hawk Down’s plotline, in which a Black Hawk crew is captured by enemies following a helicopter crash. Delta Force: Hawk Ops plans on including three game modes: Hazard Operations, Havoc Warfare, and Black Hawk Down, all of which will offer different gameplay experiences.

Recently, TiMi studios made an announcement on Discord about an upcoming Android compatibility test for Delta Force: Hawk Ops, which is set for November 6 to November 8, 2024. The test will only be available to players in Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia, and the Philippines, and is described as a “limited-access, small-scale test.”  The test’s overall goal is to evaluate device compatibility for the mobile game. The announcement also reveals that the game’s official release date is anticipated for Q1 of 2025.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops’ developers have indicated that they intend to bring about additional test phases, possibly letting even more players try the game out prior to its official release.  It was recently launched in China this September, following a June beta test. For everyone else, Delta Force: Hawk Ops will likely launch in Q1 of 2025 as a free-to-play game on iOS, Android, and additional platforms.

I am captivated by video games and how they function as a story telling medium. Mobile games, specifically, are increasingly complex forms of entertainment that can be played on the go. While many video games are available only to those who can afford expensive consoles and computers, mobile games are designed for the average person.
