Death Stranding and Control Dominate the 2020 BAFTA Game Awards Nominations List

The British Academy of Film and Television Art, or BAFTA, has unveiled their list of nominations for the 2020 BAFTA Game Awards. The event is scheduled to take place on April 2, 2020, and will once again include a who’s who of video games that greatly shaped the year of 2019. Remedy Entertainment’s Control and Kojima Production’s Death Stranding both received a record 11 nominations this year, which is the highest amount for any game in the event’s history.

Some of the awards that Control was nominated for were Best Game, Animation, Game Design, and Performer in a Leading Role for Courtney Hope. Death Stranding also enjoyed similar success in the nominations such as Performer in a Leading Role for Norman Reedus, Technical Achievement, Game Beyond Entertainment, and Debut Game. The distinct difference in awards nominations between the two titles is that Control was nominated for Best Game, while Death Stranding was not.

Besides these two behemoths, there are a plethora of games that were also given a nod or two for their achievements in 2019. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which took home the top prize at The Game Awards, is also up for Best Game this year. In addition, Disco Elysium, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Outer Wilds, and Untitled Goose Game are all nominated for the prestigious award. The Goose shocked the world when it stole the show at the D.I.C.E. Awards last month by winning Game of the Year, so keep your eyes peeled for another possible stunner at the event.

The full list of nominees is quite exhaustive and showcases just how much of an impact these titles have had on the community. Other titles that garnered nominations include Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, The Outer Worlds, Life is Strange 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Metro Exodus, and Borderlands 3. All of these games are up for a number of awards such as Multiplayer, Performer in a Leading Role, Performer in a Supporting Role, Narrative, and Music. As we said earlier, the ceremony will take place on April 2, 2020.
