Dauntless Open Beta Starts Today

From its initial trailer back in 2016, Dauntless has traveled somewhat winding road. At first, developers at Phoenix Labs were shooting for for a 2017 release date, but as we all should know, good games aren’t made overnight. Community feedback through Alpha and Beta testing is absolutely key for free-to-play titles, especially one as ambitious as Dauntless. mxdwn Games’ continued coverage included the start of Closed Beta that proved successful when the Open Beta date was announced.

Per the developer’s latest patch notes:

Slayers old and new: Welcome to the Shattered Isles! With the gates of Open Beta flung wide, your true legend can finally begin.

Dauntless has come a long way since we launched our first Alpha in early 2017. We’ve gathered invaluable information over the last year, and the outpouring of feedback and experience from testers in these last few weeks has been especially amazing.

With a huge bounty of comparisons to Monster Hunter, Dauntless seems to be launching at a perfect time. This year’s launch of Capcom’s Monster Hunter: World could have thrown a wrench in the success of Dauntless‘ eventual release, but Phoenix Labs has one strong ally: the PC gaming player base.

Monster Hunter: World has yet to announce details on its PC port. Players don’t know the minimum specs that will be required to run Capcom’s MMO and the Dauntless developers are taking pride in the fact that their game can “run on most potatoes”.

The most recent patch notes also delve into numerous changes for the game. Original “founders” will be happy to see all-new armor and weapons as well as more customization in relation to in-game cosmetics. Claiming to have quelled 1,966 bugs, the developers also state major improvements to game mechanics, balance changes, and general quality-of-life improvements to such aspects like efficient party inviting and a refined UI.

Dauntless is available on PC and its client can be downloaded here. Phoenix Labs have stated that servers will rollout at 10AM and should be completely ready by noon.
