Cyberpunk 2077’s Wall-Running Mechanic Has Been Removed

Without a shadow of a doubt, CD Projekt Red’s upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated IP’s in recent memory. There’s been a plethora of coverage since it was announced couple of years ago, and now we have some new information about how you’ll be able to traverse throughout the game, or rather, lack of traversing. In an interview with Gamereactor, Cyberpunk 2077’s Level Designer Max Pears was asked regarding the wall-running from the initial 2018 demo and how that would impact the gameplay. His answer was unfortunately a somber one as he revealed that the wall-running mechanic was completely removed from the game.

According to Pears, he stated: “that is something that we removed due to design reasons, but there’s still going to be a lot of flexibility in how you move, that’s for sure.” While his answer sounds fairly vague, it’s not a total loss on how you’ll be able to play the game, as we imagine that there will be some unique assortments of how to travel around the massive futuristic world they’re preparing for us. The gameplay in question, which can be viewed here, only shows a tiny snippet of the player character wall-running in order to take out a guard that was below them.

If anything, wall-running is arguably not a major mechanic that most fans are looking forward to when it comes to a game like Cyberpunk 2077. Special features such as hacking into people’s brains, upgrading your cybernetic enhancements, and unlocking brand new weapons are probably near the top of the list in terms of new features here. On the other hand, being able to run alongside a wall akin to the Titanfall series would have been an awesome mechanic to implement as it could’ve combined nicely with the aforementioned ones.

Either way, this doesn’t change our excitement level for the game. Despite being delayed not once, but twice, we’re still waiting with bated breath for this one, and the rest of the world is too. Cyberpunk 2077 will officially launch on November 19 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Google Stadia.
