Cyberpunk 2077 Launch Pushed Back

CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński and head of studio Adam Badowski penned an open letter to fans explaining their decision to push back the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The game was originally meant to come out on September 17th, but that date has been changed to November 19th. Iwinski and Badowski attribute the postponement to what can be summed up as quality control.

In the letter, they reassert their philosophy, saying “‘Ready when it’s done’ is not just a phrase we say because it sounds right, it’s something we live by even when we know we’ll take the heat for it.” The heat they acknowledge is the potential fractured trust between them and fans who have been anxiously waiting for the game’s release. Iwinski and Badowski extend their apologies but are sure the end result will make their reasons for the delay apparent. They explain the need for the extra time, saying “we need to properly go through everything, balance game mechanics and fix a lot of bugs. A huge world means a huge number of things to iron out and we will spend the additional time doing exactly that.” Eager fans can still get a taste of what’s to come on June 25th, during an online presentation of the game called Night City Wire.

CD Projekt Red is known to take their time with things, as seen with one of their most notable titles The Witcher III: Wild HuntCyberpunk 2077 will probably have more content but will follow The Witcher’s model of spaced out DLC’s and expansions.
