Seemingly out of nowhere, Crytek has officially announced the next entry in their flagship franchise; Crysis. Crysis 4 was unveiled to the world via a very brief teaser trailer that ends with the number 4 as well as link to the developers website. Crytek also revealed that they are currently working on the title and that they want us to “join us on our journey and become the hero you were destined to be.” The developer also stated that they have more content planned this year for their other title, Hunt: Showdown, which released in early 2018.
In their blog post Crytek calls Crysis 4 “a truly next-gen shooter” which more than likely means that the title will utilize a plethora of enhanced features, similarly like the very first entry in the franchise did way back in 2007. Crytek also mentioned that they are still looking for more developers to help on the project, and subsequently posted a massive job listing site with numerous positions open to apply for. All of these positions of employment are in the company’s main headquarters if Frankfurt, Germany, so keep that in mind if you were thinking about applying.
The Crysis franchise is also celebrating its 15th Anniversary this year. As we already mentioned, the original Crysis launched in 2007 and became the signature game for pushing the boundaries on a technical and graphical level. It also became one of the longest running jokes in the video game history, as the game’s PC requirements were so high at the time, that very few PC setups could actually run the game in general. This created the line “Yeah but can it run Crysis?” whenever a new computer or setup is introduced to the PC gaming community.
Two sequels followed in 2011 and 2013 with Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 respectively, both of which would also be released for the home console market. Crytek also re-released the original Crysis in 2020 as Crysis Remastered, and then remastered the entire trilogy as whole and released them as a full set in 2021. While it’s still too early for any concrete date or time frame, we’re still excited to see what Crytek does with Crysis 4. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long to find out.
